The Embrace of a Loving Father

Matthew 14:25‭-‬31 ESV
And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”
And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Jesus walks on water.  We Christians call this a mirical.  While this particular activity surely seems miraculous  (walking on water);  I wonder if we really see the mirical in this?

The disciples see someone on the water, are fearful, and then they hear Jesus identify himself.   He attempts to calm them.  Peter throws out what appears to be a challenge of the identity.

“Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.”

And Jesus gives the command.   Peter obediently steps out on the water and after a few steps begins to sink.  Jesus saves Peter saying

“O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

I can already hear people saying "Alright Colby we got that!  What's not miraculous about 2 people walking on the water."

Maybe the fact that the miracle isn't thier steps.  Or at least that's not the only mirical here.

“O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Let's look at the facts.

Mindset
You don't see the disciples fearful over someone walking on the water so much as they are afraid that its a ghost.  Why would they say this?  Because men can't walk on the sea.  Which leaves us with nature.

Nature
You have seen from my other blogs that nature remains the same all the time everytime.  If you jump out of an airplane you fall.  If you walk on water you sink.  So what is different here?  You don't see the disciples yelling "Look the water is becoming solid and someone is walking on it."  There is no indication that gravity in the area has changed, meaning Jesus and Peter still weigh what a full grown man of the time would weigh. No indication that nature has changed at all.

Yet the both are out on the water and are not sinking, at least for a time in Peter's case.

Why?

A very smart man once said "Once you have eliminated all of the possibilities,  whatever remains, no matter how improbable,  must be the truth."

The Supernatural
Faith!  That's the mirical.   Faith that despite nature, despite wind, despite waves, and despite the reality that men can't walk on the sea, God the father will keep me above the water.  Faith that God is not only in control but has my best interest at heart.

The question that comes to my mind is this.  Do I have the faith to say God will hold me above the water?

Can God change nature?  He created it, I have no doubt he can change it.  It would seem though that He would rather get His glory by holding his children.   Tell me that isn't a wonderful thought.

How often do we deny Him that because of our little faith?

I hope that this thought will encourage you to leap into the Fathers loving embrace.
